Padel photography tips for your phone
To photograph padel well, stand where the glass will not reflect you, shoot at the wall rebound for the best action, keep the shutter fast enough to freeze the ball and edit for the court lights. Padel courts are small, so a wide lens and a low angle go a long way.

What makes padel hard to photograph?
Padel is played on an enclosed court about 20 by 10 meters, with glass and mesh walls (Padel on Wikipedia)). Four players share a small space, the ball bounces off the walls and the play moves fast. The glass causes reflections, the mesh creates patterns, and indoor courts have mixed lighting. Each of these has a fix.
Where should you stand?
Press the lens against the glass at a slight angle, or shoot through a mesh opening if there is one. Standing close removes most reflections, because less room light falls between the lens and the glass. A dark jacket held behind the phone also helps. From behind the back wall you see the whole point develop, and from the side wall you see faces. Move between games.
How do you handle glass reflections?
- Switch off the room lights in front of you if you can, or move out of a bright spot.
- Put the lens flat against the glass or as close as possible.
- Tilt the phone slightly so the reflection of your own screen falls elsewhere.
- Wear dark clothing so you do not reflect in the glass.
- Shoot once with the flash off and avoid direct flash, which bounces straight back.
Which moments make strong padel photos?
- The smash, with the racket above the head and the ball just above it.
- The wall rebound, when the ball leaves the glass and the player turns.
- Pairs celebrating or talking between points.
- Feet and the ball at the net.
- Reflections: a player in the glass with the court lights behind.
How do you freeze fast movement?
Light matters more than anything. Outdoors at midday your phone picks a fast shutter on its own. Indoors or at night it slows down, and rackets blur. If your camera offers manual controls, as DEUCE's camera does for exposure, ISO, shutter, white balance and focus, raise the shutter speed and accept a bit more grain. Grain looks like film and blur looks like a mistake.
Anticipate the shot. Focus on the spot where the ball will land, then press as the player reaches it.
How should you edit court photos?
Floodlights over glass give bright points on dark, which is the situation where halation looks best. Read what halation is for the logic, then try a medium amount, warm, with a high threshold. Pull highlights down to keep the glass from burning out, add a little grain and keep skin tones natural. The photo editor has all of these tools.
Which settings suit common padel scenes?
Try each look on a favorite frame and compare it with the original.
| Scene | Film direction | Extra |
|---|---|---|
| Evening court, floodlights | Warm, dense look | Halation medium |
| Daylight outdoor court | Clean, bright look | Low grain |
| Glass reflection portrait | Soft contrast | Slight bloom |
| Black and white action | Mono film | Medium grain |
How do you share a padel match?
DEUCE has padel scoreboard stencils that support pairs. Fields cover names, score, set score or tiebreak, round, event, court and surface, and all of them are optional. Put the final score on the best frame, then build a carousel with the match story. See stencils and carousels for the steps.

Ask players before you shoot at a club, especially for photos you will post. Do not use flash during play. Stay out of the way of the door and the net. A post that thanks the players and shares the photos goes further than a surprise upload.
How do you photograph padel through the mesh?
Many courts have a metal mesh above the glass. A phone lens can shoot through a hole in the mesh if you press it close, and it will blur the wire out of the picture when the lens is almost touching it. Do not touch the mesh with the glass of the lens. Hold the phone steady and tap on the player so the phone does not focus on the wire.
What about shooting video stills or burst?
A rally moves fast. Burst mode gives you many frames per second and you pick the one where the ball and the racket meet. Select a couple, delete the rest and edit those. The sports guide, sports photography on iPhone, covers burst and focus lock in detail.
Which gear helps?
- A small clip-on lens cloth, since glass and sweat smear the lens.
- A power bank, because burst and bright screens drain the battery.
- A phone grip or case with a strap for low angles near the glass.
- A dark jacket or cap to cut reflections.
Why use film looks for padel?
Padel is often played in the evening under lights, and film looks handle that well. Warm lamps, dark walls and bright glass create the conditions where halation, grain and a warm color balance look natural. Try the looks from the film catalog on a few frames, set the intensity around 60 to 80 percent and compare with the original.
How do you photograph the pair at the net?
Doubles at the net give the best padel images: two players, close together, reading the same ball. Shoot from the back corner of the court at a slight angle so both players show, and wait for the smash or the volley. A 35 mm lens fits both players without distortion. After the point, the reaction shots between partners tell the story of the match, so keep the camera ready.
What should you do when the glass is dirty?
Dirty glass lowers contrast and adds haze. You cannot clean a club's windows, so shoot at an angle where the dirt is less visible, or use the haze as part of the look. Raise contrast in the editor and add a little clarity. A film with strong blacks often hides a hazy wall, while a soft look makes it worse.
