46 film looks, each with a character

What is a film in DEUCE?

A film is a complete look: color balance, contrast, grain and halation tuned together, where a filter would be one slider. Each one carries a code, such as AU2, and a name, such as Dimanche, so you can find it again and talk about it.

The film page also tells you what to expect. You get a character line (Dimanche is dense ochre, gold in the highlights, honest contrast), an origin (Sunday noon on clay, sun at its highest) and three scenes it suits best.

How are the 46 films grouped?

Films belong to series, and series are named after places where the game is played. The code prefix tells you which series a film is in. The catalog includes series tied to Paris, Monte-Carlo, London, New York, Scotland and Buenos Aires, among others.

Some examples from the catalog:

Code and nameCharacter
AU1 MirabeauCool highlights, warm shadows, soft pastel
AU2 DimancheSunday noon, dense ochre
AU3 Terre BattueMaximum surface, high contrast
RQ1 Cap MartinSea behind the net, salt on the lens
SW1 Church RoadOvercast, honest whites
SW3 Centre LineBlack and white, open shadows
FI3 Silver 100Black and white, almost no grain

How do you find the right film?

Open the Film tab and use the search field. It accepts a code, a name or a series. You can also filter the list, and the chips at the top suggest films for today's light.

Inside the editor, the film strip shows films picked for the current frame first, then the full list.

  1. Open a photo in the editor, or start the camera.
  2. Tap the Film dock button.
  3. Scroll the strip, or search for a code like AU2.
  4. Tap a film to apply it, then set the intensity.

Can you compare two films?

Yes. In the Film tab, pick one film and then choose a second one to compare. A divider appears over the frame. Drag it left and right to see both looks on the same image.

What does intensity do?

Intensity runs from zero to 100. At 100 you get the film's full character. Lower values blend the look back toward the original, which helps on faces and on frames that are already strongly colored.

Advanced controls let you scale grain and halation and shift the scan toward cool, neutral or warm.

How does DEUCE describe each film?

Every film has a short story line. AU3 Terre Battue reads, Dust on the shoes by the third hour. AU2 Dimanche reads, Sunday noon. Nobody hurries. These lines are there to help you choose by mood before you look at numbers.

Under the story, three scenes tell you where the film works. AU1 Mirabeau suits a pre-match portrait, morning clay and skin in shade. AU3 suits a strike in motion, backlit dust and surface detail. RQ1 Cap Martin suits a court by water, whites in sun and daytime haze.

Are film names translated?

No. Film names are DEUCE's own and stay the same in English and Russian. The notes, stories and scene lists are translated, so the Russian interface shows the same catalog in Russian.

How does the catalog help in the first minute?

During onboarding, DEUCE asks where you want to start (shoot, edit or load a roll) and what you want to keep: the moment, the ritual or the company. Your answer picks a first film, so the app does not open on a wall of choices.

Later, the Studio tab summarizes your frames over the last 30 days, which shows how often you shoot and edit.

Which films are Club films?

Some films carry a Club badge, and newer films carry a New tag. Club members get every film, including rare ones. The rest of the catalog is available without Club.

Which film should you start with?

For midday clay, try Dimanche. For overcast grass, try Church Road. For black and white with almost no grain, try Silver 100. During onboarding, DEUCE also suggests a first film based on what you want to keep: the moment, the ritual or the company.

Frequently asked questions

How many films does DEUCE have?

The editor lists 46 films. Some are marked as Club films.

What do the codes like AU2 mean?

The letters identify the series and the number identifies the film within it. AU2 is the second film in the Auteuil series, named Dimanche.

Can I lower the strength of a film?

Yes. The intensity control goes from zero to 100, where 100 is the film's full character.

Are there black and white films?

Yes. Centre Line and Silver 100 are black and white looks, and more are in the catalog.

Do films work on photos from my library?

Yes. The Studio tab lets you apply any film to a photo you already have.
