DEUCE: film looks built around racket sports and golf
DEUCE has 46 films named after places where the game is played, a live camera with 24, 35, 55 and 85 mm lenses, and an editor for photos you already have. A loaded roll of 12, 24 or 36 frames hides its pictures until your local sunrise, which is the same idea as a disposable camera. See the film catalog and the sunrise roll.
Limits: it is in TestFlight, so there is no App Store rating yet. It runs on iPhone only, handles photos rather than video, and has no sharing network of its own. Photos stay on the device and the app has no accounts. Details on pricing.
Dazz Cam: the biggest catalog of camera styles
Dazz Cam describes film formats such as 135, 120, half-frame, instant and disposable, modern CCD and compact profiles, and retro video modes, with 14 app languages and an iPad version. It has by far the most ratings in this list together with Lapse. Its core is free, with Pro and per-camera purchases on top. Read the head-to-head in DEUCE vs Dazz Cam.
Huji Cam, Lapse, Dispo and OldRoll: older and narrower picks
Huji Cam gives one 1998-style look, and its last update on the App Store was in December 2024. Lapse is a disposable camera where you shoot first and develop later, and its listing shows a single language. Dispo is built for shooting with friends, with photos developing every day at 9 a.m.; compare it in DEUCE vs Dispo. OldRoll offers many camera bodies and video, and its listing mentions Super 8.
Afterlight: when you already have the photo
Afterlight is mainly an editor. Its listing mentions 300+ film-inspired presets, effects and overlays, plus a camera mode with live filters. That fits photos taken earlier on a regular camera. DEUCE's photo editor covers the same case with film intensity, grain, halation and crop, and leaves the original untouched.
Who should pick which?
- Choose Dazz Cam or OldRoll if you want video and a large set of camera bodies.
- Choose Lapse or Dispo if the disposable idea matters more than the look.
- Choose Afterlight if you edit photos you took earlier with a pro camera.
- Choose DEUCE if you shoot tennis, padel or golf and want film looks, scoreboards and a roll that waits for sunrise.
- Install two. Every app here is free to download.
